Put Your Best Fork Forward!
No, it's not a typo. Every March the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) holds a nutrition education and information campaign to promote healthful eating and physical activity habits. This year's theme is Put Your Best Fork Forward! Each of us has the ability to make healthier food, nutrition and physical activity choices. Start making small changes now and over time they can have a beneficial impact on your health.
The AND suggests these 17 tips for 2017:
- Eat breakfast
- Make half your plate fruits and vegetables
- Watch portion sizes
- Be active
- Fix healthy snacks
- Get to know food labels
- Consult an RDN (Registered Dietitian Nutritionist)
- Follow Food Safety Guidelines
- Get cooking
- Dine out without ditching your goals
- Enact family meal time
- Banish brown bag boredom
- Drink more water
- Explore new foods and flavors
- Eat seafood twice a week
- Cut back on added sugars
- Experiment with more plant-based meals
